“In the Summer of 2008, I attended the Chappie James Flight Academy. That summer I was a part of a group of young students that was introduced to the world of aviation by competent and passionate black pilots. Within that week I learned about aerodynamics, airplane mechanics, and most importantly how to conduct myself with the confidence of a pilot. Personally, that lesson in confidence was invaluable at the age of 13. At the graduation event, these lessons came to a culmination as we conducted a standing presentation in front of a large crowd, about the flight academy education we just went through. As nerve-racking as the presentation was the test wasn’t over. Next, we were given the opportunity to sit in the pilots’ seats and fly with a flight instructor. For a number of us, this would be the first time we ever sat on a plane. The moment the pilot told me over the radio to take control of the stick, left me with a feeling of control over my own life, and more importantly my destination. The Chappie James Flight Academy launched me into AFROTC in high school, which then led me to an Army enlistment and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. And I can say confidently that since attending the CJF Academy; I believe it is the responsibility of an upstanding citizen to be confident in their ability and giving to their community.”

Thank you Chappie James Flight Academy.
